The server mymiler.com exists on is being re-purposed, and as such, mymiler.com needed to be moved. It should be a little faster now as well. In the upcoming months, mymiler.com will get a full makeover as well. Please let me know if you’re interested in beta testing the new site!

Choose a date

Another new feature has been added! This one allows you to select the
date that you filled up, instead of having to type it in. With this, it
sets the date to your preferred format, automatically! This eases
problems with data consistency, and makes it easier for you to use.

MyMiler.com has recently added some new features. These include overviews for Models (http://mymiler.com/Toyota/Prius) and overviews for years (http://mymiler.com/2003). This way, you can compare vehicles of similar models or years. More new features to come!

Finally managed to get some entries for someone who was waiting on me. Almost 30,000 miles for him alone, all the way back to 2005!

MyMiler.com has moved from MySQL to PostgreSQL. What does this mean to you, the user? Probably not a whole lot. So why do it, you ask? Because it will make adding new features a lot easier for the developer(s), and much less error prone.

Look for new features (like improved unit support) coming soon!

Twitter Support

Woohoo! Twitter support is here. You should be able to enter mileage information directly via twitter now! Just add your twitter username to mymiler.com, and follow http://twitter.com/mymiler. It will automatically follow you, and from there on, direct messages to mymiler will create entries for you.

Currently valid entries are things like:

100000m 20.00g $3.289

100000m 20.00g 3.289

100000 20.00g $3.289

and more. Anything that doesn’t get processed is still captured, so that it can be reviewed at a later date.

I’m working on Twitter support, among other things. So if you’d like to be able to send your fuel updates via cell phone, head over to the mymiler twitter page, and click on the Follow button. I’m not completely sure what format I’m going to be parsing for, so if you have suggestions, please send a tweet to mymiler and tag it with #sg.

Less than 3 weeks to 30,000 miles!

Thanks to a few users who had some backdated data, mymiler.com is tracking over 30,000 miles driven, and $5,000 USD spent on fuel. Not bad for an application that’s still pre-beta!

Single Vehicle Entry Addition

One of the ‘bugs’ that was reported to me was that users with only a single vehicle shouldn’t have to select their vehicle from the drop down, on the entries screen. This has been rectified, and should make adding entries a little easier!

Validation

I’ve added validation to the entries screen. This way, if you enter invalid data, it won’t just accept it and move on, it will actually tell you that you did something wrong, and you need to fix it.

Makes for a much better user experience, IMHO.

Now, to get it on the rest of the pages!

Suggestions update

I’ve received several suggestions, and the suggestions have always been sent as the web-server user. I’ve updated the suggestions page so that you can type in your email address if you’re not logged in, and it will include your email address if you are. This way, you can get updated when I finish your request!

System Stats Fix

Had to fix the system stats, as they weren’t accurately displaying the ‘bottom 5’ data. Minor issue of a NOT IN () portion of the query.

A bit more stats have been added to the page. It shows the total number of miles driven, and the total amount of money spent. This isn’t really important from an end-user perspective, but to me, it ads a bit of flair to the page.

The top header now includes the total number of miles driven, and the total amount of money spent, systemwide. I’ve got to work some more on the CSS to have it behave like it’s supposed to.

After that, I’ll be adding in support for the user’s locale, to show the correct distance (miles/kilometers).

Fuel 2.0 Application

Working on a Web-based fuel tracking application. Currently supports creating vehicles, adding entries, and viewing basic stats. Most every vehicle ever created is available. Currently, only American units (miles and gallons) are supported, but a future enhancement will contain Imperial units (kilometers and litres).

Graphs are currently being made via YUI charts. I’m shooting for making everything work in a JS-less browser, before I bother getting all the fancy javascript stuff. Function before form, in this case.

I’m still searching for a name, since all the good domains seem to have been taken. :(
